John Hooton was born and raised in Mallow, the third eldest in a family of eleven children. Leaving school at 15 John went on to complete his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker with Dan Doolan in Kanturk. Working as a lone craftsman from a small workshop near his parents home in Ballyviniter, John officially opened Mallow Fitted Furniture in 1981. This workshop has grown over the years as has John’s unrivalled reputation for producing high quality custom made furniture. For the first number of years John worked on his own and in 1983 took on his first apprentice. Over the years a number of apprentices have passed through the doors of Mallow Fitted Furniture. In the beginning John was fortunate to have the support and book-keeping skills of his father, William, and in recent years this job has passed on to his wife Noreen. John and Noreen have three children, two of whom are in college, and the eldest has recently qualified as a geologist. John is committed to providing a quality service to the community and believes that a reputation as an honest and reliable business is the recipe for success.
